Ethical Use of Wiki

Below is a list of code of ethics when using wiki for both pupils and teachers adapted from: http://k12wiki.wikispaces.com/Social+Networking+Acceptable+Use

Seek Truth and Express It
Teachers and pupils should be honest, fair, and courageous in gathering, interpreting and expressing information for the benefit of others. They should:

1) Not plagarise
2) Always identify sources - never use information from another without proper citation and permission
3) Never distort or misrepresent the content of photos, videos or othe media without explanation of intent and permission from information's owner.
4) Distinguish between opinion and fact when expressing ideas. Analysis and commentary should be labeled and not misrepresent fact or context

Minimize Harm
Teachers and pupils should treat others with respect. They should:

5) Avoid stereotyping by race, gender, age, religion, ethnicity, geography, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance and social status
6) Consider all possible outcomes to the information you express, guarding against potential harm to others.
7) Never illegally hack, alter or publish information that is untrue and potentially harmeful

Be Accountable
Teachers and pupils are accountable to their readers, listeners, viewers and to each other. They should:

8) Clarify and explain information and invite dialogue
9) Admit mistakes and correct them promptly
10) Expose unethical inofmration practices of others.
