Ethical Use of Wiki

Below is a list of code of ethics when using wiki for both pupils and teachers adapted from: http://k12wiki.wikispaces.com/Social+Networking+Acceptable+Use

(Please note that this list is inexhaustive and you are welcome to add on to it)

Seek Truth and Express It
Teachers and pupils should be honest, fair, and courageous in gathering, interpreting and expressing information for the benefit of others. They should:

1) Not plagarise
2) Always identify sources - never use information from another without proper citation and permission
3) Never distort or misrepresent the content of photos, videos or othe media without explanation of intent and permission from information's owner.
4) Distinguish between opinion and fact when expressing ideas. Analysis and commentary should be labeled and not misrepresent fact or context

Minimize Harm
Teachers and pupils should treat others with respect. They should:

5) Avoid stereotyping by race, gender, age, religion, ethnicity, geography, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance and social status
6) Consider all possible outcomes to the information you express, guarding against potential harm to others.
7) Never illegally hack, alter or publish information that is untrue and potentially harmeful

Be Accountable
Teachers and pupils are accountable to their readers, listeners, viewers and to each other. They should:

8) Clarify and explain information and invite dialogue
9) Admit mistakes and correct them promptly
10) Expose unethical inofmration practices of others.

C. Big Red Wolf

Introduction (C)	Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there was a dark and lonely forest. In that dark, lonely forest, there lived a big, red wolf called Clifford. One day, Clifford was sleeping in his cave in one corner of the forest, when he heard laughters and singing. Curious, Clifford decided to go and see where the noise was coming from.
Body (B)	Clifford inched nearer and nearer to the source of the noise. His heart thobbing with fear at the encounter of any strange creature. Wolla! It was not someone undesirable. It was Sally from ETD. She was asking Clifford to contribute to her presentation on wiki. :)
Conclusion (A)	He regretted his busybody ways as that meant that he had to work doubly hard at his job and this also would lead to more sleepless nights

A. Sleeping Ugly

Introduction (A)	Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess who lived in a castle. However, she had horns growing out of her head and her skin was green and scaly.
Body (B)	One day, the princess decided to announce for her campaign for her future partner.
Conclusion (C)	Princess Sally sauntered to the campaign site, holding up posters of her selection criteria. There was a long queue waiting to be audited. One important criterion is that he must know how to use wiki to teach English Language in Singapore.

B. Cheese Prata Man

Introduction (B)	"Thump! Thump!" Anxiety crawled in my blood stream and throbbed my right temple. "What am I supposed to do?" Hansel has asked me to go to the Cheese Prata Man to get salt. My goodness! I hope he would not ask me to do household chores for him today! What a cheap labour!
Body (A)	Cheese Prata Man decided that he would only get the salt and not do the chores if he was asked to do the chores as he certainly was not keen on that.
Conclusion (C)	So, I went to the Cheese Prata Man and asked for salt. He ate me! Now, I'm a Cheese Prata Man, too.

Twisted Fairy Tales

May I ask for 3 volunteers to demonstrate how a wiki can be used for joint writing?

Instructions:

1) Each of the volunteer will be allocated one of the following stories:

A) Sleeping Ugly
B) Cheese Prata Man
C) Big Riding Wolf

2) Each of the volunteer will click on the 'easy edit' button to start writing the introduction of the allocated story. Each volunteer will have 3 minutes before he/she has to click the 'save' button.

3) Volunteer A will then have 3 minutes to write the body of Story B, while Volunnter B write Story C and Volunteer C will write Story A.

4) When 3 minutes is up, Volunteer A, B,C will click the 'save' button and move on to Story C for Volunteer A, Story A for Volunteer B and Story B for Volunteer C.

5) At the end of 9 minutes, we will have 3 completed stories and all 3 volunteers have a part to play in each of finishing each of them.
